So it's been hot and yes I've been cheap, but after a month of unrelenting humidity and heat, I finally gave in and got myself Whynter ARC-12S . In part recommended by a friend and part cos I'm love clean designs. It came in a tall serious looking box and I was able to unpack and hook it up relatively fast. The unit itself was a nice metallic finish. Now for the real test. Temperature as reported on in the last hr was 87degrees. Turned the unit on high and set it to 70degrees. The room that I'm cooling is not huge but has about an additional 25sqft of closet space that I'm trying ot cool as well, so that's about 280-300 sqfeet of area and 12ft high ceilings. Stood in front of the unit for awhile to cool down. It felt very reassuringly cold. Definitely was working away.

Left the room for about 35-40 mins and when I returned, it was definitely way more comfortable. I would estimate that it was close to 76degrees. That cooling rate was trememdously better than the 2 year old window unit that decided to fail on my last month. It runs fairly silent even on high. For the price and overall performance over the past couple of weeks, I give it a solid thumbs up.

Thursday afternoon it was 100 degrees in Michigan and i was exhausted from the heat. I had to do something. So I got on Amazon where I buy most everything. My Whynter ARC-12S air conditioner was delivered Friday afternoon, it was still 100 degrees outside and 94 in my house. I have an open floor plan about 900 sq feet and 3 floors, so I wasn't sure this would help at all, but to my surprise it did. It only took 15 minutes to set it up, I closed up the house, left my ceiling fans running, and went to town for 2 hours. When I returned it was 87 degrees. I slept better than I had in a week and this morning it's 80 degrees and very comfortable. The upstairs area is about 8 degrees warmer but I didn't have that ceiling. Fan on and there was a window open, I've made those corrections and am expecting some improvement. I may need a second unit if the extreme heat continues. Overall my expectations have been exceeded with this unit.

We bought Whynter ARC-12SDH back in September and took it out again recently for the heater function. Nicely designed unit that has a clean modern look. The display is a concealed LCD band that is simple and understandable without an overload information and meaningless statistics. Although easy to roll around, be sure to get help when lifting up above a foot. The window kit was good quality and overall setup was considerably easy. Just hookup the hoses to the kit and fit the kit snugly into the window opening.

Cools wonderfully. I use it specifically in the baby's room and occasionally in the study. The dual hose design helps with the energy efficiency and overall cooling or heating out. Both rooms are about 18x18 and this unit has no problem cooling down a 95F room to a comfortable temp in less than 30 mins. I'm surprised that the cooling throughput of this unit is actually 20%-30% faster than another 14000 BTU that I have. Nothing scientific but even my wife notices the significant difference. The heating option is not for heavy duty heating but it works perfectly as a spot heater when you don't want to crank central heat up too much. To sum it up, this is a surprisingly efficient unit albeit slightly bulky but gives great bang for the buck.

This does a wonderful job at cooling our master bedroom even in 96 degree weather. We've been using Whynter ARC-12SDH  for over a month and haven't had to drain or empty anything. The dual hose process seems to work well in getting the moisture out of the room. No negative pressure created by this unit, which helps a lot in keeping the room insulated and chilly.

The window kit that came with the unit was ok to setup. Had to screw in the hose connections for a more secure fit but it. I use it with a vertical hung window and the panels stays put fine. Had to wash the frame filter once (you have no idea how much dust is in your room) but the carbon filter seems to be in good condition despite daily use. It's been a real help with the humid heat.

I purchased Whynter ARC-12SD to alleviate the extreme heat inside of one of my rooms. This particular room housed the majority of my electronic equipment. This thing sure made a difference. After about a day of running it dropped the temperature about 20 degrees. The only downside that I would place on this would be the window adapter. It wasn't quite wide enough to completely seal my window (it missed the mark by about 4 inches). A simple fix of a piece of wood cut to size and some duct tape fixed it up nicely though.
